A Letter I’ve Been Meaning To Write

Dear Santa,

How was your summer? Nice I hope…. Lets just skip the whole part where I promise I’ve been nice all year, cos lets face it I had my moments…. But I was mostly good, I didn’t burn anything down, and everyone is still alive : D

That being said I have one wish for Christmas this year, thats right just the one….

For Christmas this year all I want are….socks…..

Thats right socks, but not just any old socks, no sir re bob! I want a pair of magical socks! I want a pair of magical socks that the dyer won’t be able to eat, that the dogs won’t be able to rip holes in, that never get a funky smell, that will never end up being just one sock because the other one has fallen off the face of the earth while you were asleep and even though you checked under the bed and even moved the bed you still can’t find the freaking sock!

Please Santa I am begging you, all I want for Christmas is a pair of socks! I’m not asking for world peace (although I think the world would be a more peaceful place if we weren’t always looking for socks!), or millions of dollars, I just want a pair of socks…. Thats all!

Thank you in advance!

Another Crazy Day At My Zoo

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Seriously, my zoo needs its own name and gift shop!! Its taking on a life of its own….

Last night I took Beka to the vet to get her checked for a microchip and see how she was doing… She doesn’t have a microchip so she’s staying with us “for awhile” until she is back on her foot…. And she can stay with us if its the best home for her (ie: she gets along with all our pets and is happy here)

As far as her health goes the vet says she is in GREAT health for someone whose been homeless and starving, her only issue is the (possible) road rash on her face and some scratches in her ears! Shes a very lucky puppy! We went ahead and got her shots and everything, she’s got a pretty harness and collar to hold her tags and her very first toy it seems! (Which she is learning to play with)

At the moment we are working on figuring out the best way to introduce Beka and Daine and let them play in a way that no one will get hurt!

I’ll try to add more pics and update some more tomorrow, right now I’m totally worn out….

Meet Beka

Some have suggested that I have a mini zoo *cough* Obscured Vixen *cough*

And she’s probably right… Either a zoo or a 3 ring circus I’m not sure which yet…. Between helping my Dad take care of my two sisters (Emily (13) and Briana (12)) and our cats, and then the addition of my puppy Daine it was really starting to feel like a zoo around here! No joke! Daine’s finally started to settle into her life here, and has made amazing strides in her training and such…. So of course just as things started to calm down and fall into place something would come up… Or someone

Yesterday afternoon as Daine and I were playing outside in our yard (Daine on her 20 foot leash) this tiny (ish) dog/puppy walked right up to me with the saddest look in her eyes of “help” I could count every one of her ribs, and she was just freezing… (it was in the 20s yesterday I believe) I couldn’t just leave her in the yard to starve, so I put Daine in the house and got some dog food and lured her onto our enclosed porch… She’s seriously friendly and fairly calm for a dog whose been living on her own for so long….

So after much discussion and debating Dad and I decided to let her stay inside tonight and we are taking her to the vet this afternoon, our goal is to either find her owners if she ran away, or nurse her back to heath and find her a forever home, or become her forever home…. (I’ve already had several people mention to me about Daine getting a sister for Christmas, we don’t know about that, we just want her to have the best home possible either with us or a family of her own)

Please cross your fingers and pray that she doesn’t need too much health care, other than being starved she appears healthy…. I’ll spare you all the gory details but keep you posted…. And without further ado here are some pics for you to “Awwww” over

Look at that face (and those poor ribs....)

How could I say no?

Yeah... Breaks my heart too

Thankfully the redness in her lips isn't as bad as it was....

Another lazy day…

okay not really….

After our adventures in traveling over the weekend I was hoping that Sunday would be an easy day, a day of rest and getting back to a routine for Daine… Alas that was not to be….

Yesterday around 10am Mr. Chesterfield picked a fight with Daine and smacked her in the face and cut her eye, we couldn’t tell at the time if Chester had cut Daine’s actual eye, her tear duct, or her eye lid…. But it looked like Daine was crying blood and needless to say I was pretty worried about it since cat scratches can get infected SO easily (you might remember Galadriel scratching her own eye a few months back) so we called her normal Banfield and wouldnt you know it, they were closed till Tuesday!! So we called our next closest one (in Tulsa which is 2 hours away from here) and asked if they thought she should be seen today or if she could wait till Tuesday. And they recommended she be seen today so she could get antibiotics for her eye to prevent infection and see how deep the cut was… So we packed up the car and headed out for a 2 hour drive (haha giligans island comes to mind….)

We got to the vets with no incidents (other than a very sad looking puppy and two semi-grumpy kids) and after a short wait the vet came in to meet Daine! I have to say hands down she’s the best vet we’ve ever seen and if she was a little closer to where we lived we’d make her our primary vet! The first time she came in she came in just to see Daine, to meet her and got down on the floor and played with her! Daine totally loved her right away and wasn’t afraid at all (although she didn’t like having her eyes looked at) and was actually too excited to do the exam the first time, the doctor had to leave and come back lol

After much work to hold her still and a dye test we discovered that she did in fact have a shallow cut on her eye, so we have some lovely antibiotic gel/paste/creme stuff to put in Daine’s little eye 2-3 times a day…. And a cone…. yeah…. Poor Baby! She only has to wear the cone if she scratches at it, and so far she’s working really hard not to do that again after all the cats mocked her cone head

Of course Daine still wants to give Chester kisses and cuddles and we can’t figure out why he’s suddenly so violent to her (They used to be the best of friends) so while Daine is on the mend we are having to keep them separated so she doesn’t get a scratch in her other eye! *phew*

So that was my weekend how about yours?

(btw in other news Daine is now 19 weeks old and weighs 29/30 pounds! omg!!)

Elevators, Fish Stories, and Wubbas

Hello All! Today I have a rather funny story to share with y’all that I mentioned on twitter yesterday so sit back, and make sure you aren’t drinking anything you wouldn’t want to go thru your nose 😉

I am out of town this weekend, we had some important Doctors things in 3 different cities each of which are 3+ hours from my house, yet they are all less than 2 hours from each other. So we decided to stay in a hotel in one. This was Daine’s (aged 18 weeks) first roadtrip, her first overnighter, her first hotel, and her very first elevator ride. A lot of firsts for one so young, but she’s handled it well! The first part of our story starts with the elevator…..

We got to the hotel after MANY hours of travel time and while Dad went to get the kids and luggage from our car I decided to go ahead and take Daine to the room so she could run around some as she was just bursting at the seems with energy, and so that I could check out the room and make sure they didn’t goof and put us in the wrong one (its been none to happen before trust me)

I managed to get across the lobby and into the elevator with no incident (unless you count stupid adults who lean down to pet her without asking totally messing with her training that she isn’t supposed to jump on people but whatever) and as soon as I stepped into the elevator I realized that Daine had never been in one before, and since she HATES small spaces I was a bit worried how she’d react.

Thankfully we only had to go to the 3rd floor and it was a fairly quick ride, we were totally alone in the elevator and she spent the whole time running around in circles freaking out a bit. And when those doors opened on the 3rd floor she BURST out and ran right into this guy. Who was wearing a bright red shirt, and who’d been standing right up against she door. I apologized many times explaining she was just a puppy and it was her first time on an elevator and it had scared her a bit, he said it was no problem, petted her some, and went on his way saying she was a cute dog (most everyone does)

Flash Forward about an hour:

Dad had went downstairs to pick up the kids supper, and I’d told him about the incident, lo and behold guess who he shared an elevator up with? Yep. Mr. Redshirt himself! Who started out the elevator small talk with the usual “what floor” “3” “me too”

“I was waiting for this elevator earlier” said Mr. Redshirt “on the 3rd floor ya know, and as soon as the doors open this GIANT {his words not mine} dog burst out and jumped right on me! This woman said it was the dogs first time in an elevator and I swear it was so big his paws sat on my chest!” {authors note: Daine is 18 weeks old, she weighs about 35 pounds, and on her back paws her nose reaches just above my hip and I’m 5 foot 3}

The guy went on for a little while, and then Dad said:

“That was my daughter and her dog, she’s just a puppy only 16-17 weeks old {dads only a little off!}…It was her first time in an elevator”

“What kind of dog is that?!?! She was huge!!!”

“Some kind of terrier mix” {dad didn’t feel like explaining the whole thing}

“Thats gonna be one big dog someday….”

Mr. Redshirt is no doubt by now wandering around the hotel telling anyone who will listen about how he was nearly mauled to death by a HUGE black puppy in an elevator…. Gotta love fish stories, they get bigger every time they are told….

My big vicious dog (hahaha) picked out a new toy yesterday, and after she begged for it and carried it around the entire store by herself I said she could have it. I swear I didn’t name this thing myself, its embroidered right on the front of the toy, its called….a wubba….. She’s obsessed with it and it makes her happy so thats a good thing, especially as much as she’s been stuck in the car lately.

Thats all I have for today! Hope you enjoyed my fish story ; )

Thanks for reading
